Tuvans walking to church in the summer.

A Miracle Church Plant

Telley, a town in western Tuva, is in a staunchly Buddhist area that fiercely opposes Christianity. As we came into the town, we could sense Satan’s oppression. At first, people were warm and helpful when they found that an American had come to visit. But the moment they learned that I was a Christian minister, their attitude changed and their animosity was evident.

We decided to conduct a medical outreach followed by a short service to invite people to follow Jesus. Some had never heard of an authority greater then their Buddhist leaders. They proclaimed the name of Buddha, but we were there to proclaim the Name higher then all names, Jesus Christ.

After a clear salvation call, I asked who wanted to receive Jesus as Savior. Suddenly in the back of the room, a man stood and threatened the lives of those who dared to consider laying aside other gods and calling Jesus Christ Lord. Yet in spite of the threat, the Holy Spirit moved mightily across that place, and 17 people boldly stood to accept Christ. The man who threatened the crowd turned and left as lives were added to the Kingdom and a new church began that day.
