The long hard road to Vyatchino Russia
It’s been a hard road for Sergey and Alexey. After 3 years of evangelizing and preaching in several villages in the region of Perm, Russia they were constantly persecuted by the government and regarded by the people as a cult. Those they loved and attempted to win to Christ called them a sect and no one would dare come to their meetings to be associated with these two men. They had not one convert in 3 years.
But, they didn’t stop in their quest to reach people for the cause of Christ. They didn’t have fear. They prayed and persevered and it paid off. On a rainy summer day God began his work in the town of Vyatchino. Just days before, God spoke to the head of the government who was in charge of these 4 villages. In his heart he knew that the people were desperate and without hope. Alcoholism and drug addiction were destroying people’s lives and killing the people living in the villages. God spoke to him that these men had the answer to the desperation. These men had hope.
One Sunday morning, this man, who earlier had persecuted these Sergey and Alexey for their beliefs, stood before a crowd of people pleading with them to listen to what these men had to say. In that moment they knew that God had broken through and reached hearts once cold to the gospel. After telling the people of God’s love that service, 20 people gave their hearts to Christ. There now there stands a church where there was no gospel witness.
This man not only promoted the ministry Sergey and Alexey but also gave them and building rent free to conduct their meetings. The only challenge they now face is getting to each village. The roads in this region are almost impassable in the summer when the rains come. They have asked for prayer that God would provide a jeep so that they could get it each village for services. What door God has opened no man can shut!
Church Plant in the Far East of Russia
Primorsky region is one of the largest Russian regions. It is located on the Far East of Russia, near Japan and North Korea. There are 2 million people in the region. Several years ago Genna and his family moved to the Sakhalin Island and started a new church in the little town of Uglegorsk. It was the first Christian Church in the town. Years later there were 4 new churches that they had planted, with 150 believers in them. They prepared and appointed two new pastors for the ministry there. February, 2005 God spoke to them about Tashkent, Central Asia, to help a local church grow and become mature enough to work among Muslims.
Summer of 2007 they started a new church in the city of Vladivostok, a large region with surprisingly very few churches. Genna and Lena Krigan, seasoned church planters, have a simple and powerful vision for their new church in the Far East, a part of BTI’s vision to open 400 churches. They plan on not only evangelizing the region but training disciples, in order they will be able to spread the Gospel throughout the Primorsky region. They want the church be a cell-group based church with weekly Sunday services. They believe that God has lead them to this place to see His kingdom come in Russia!
