The Miracle of Tuva

Only a handful of believers lived in Tuva, a region in Siberia, when we arrived. For 6,000 years this region had been without an adequate gospel witness. God opened a door for us to go and present the love of Jesus to them.

In November 1997, God told me to plant a church in the Tuvan town of Ak-Dovrak. After much prayer, a team of believers and I spent three days simply showing God’s love to the people there. On the third day, we held a service in a local hall that seated 200 people.

As the time grew near to start the meeting, we heard no sound coming from the hall. No one was there! As the manager of the hall approached, I told him that regrettably we would have to cancel the meeting because no one showed up. He said that wasn’t our main problem. Instead, he wanted to know how we planned to seat all of the people waiting outside!  It was 50 below zero outside, yet people were so drawn by the Holy Spirit they stood there waiting for the doors to open. That night 234 people were in that building, and 234 people came forward for salvation after hearing the name of Jesus Christ for the first time.

Temperatures reach -60 f in Tuva, Siberia.
